Workshop on Suicide Prevention

Jalandhar, May 15, 2020: The Department of Psychology of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, organised a one-day online workshop on the topic ‘Suicide Prevention’ which was attended by 57 students. The Resource Person of the day was Ms Ketki Doshi who runs NGO- Sisters Living works.

Addressing the students, she said we need to keep an eye on our closed ones and other people around us who have depressing thoughts and are not in their high spirits as it can lead to suicide. Maintaining the decorum, we should try to instil positive and optimistic thoughts in people who are not very strong and get devastated soon. She added that just trying to cheer them up and helping them to find something productive in their lives can lead to positive results and the rate of suicide can decrease immensely. She also answered various queries put forth by students.

College Principal, Dr Sucharita Sharma, put forth her views about this workshop and said that in this time of crisis, the negative thoughts can surround one and to stay optimistic is always essential. Such workshops justify the need of time. She also appreciated the efforts of Ms Monika Sekhon and Dr Monika Bahri for successfully conducting this online workshop.
